600km Walking Pilgrimage through Spain

Written by Denise Chng Lisan & published on September 2 2008

From the moment I discovered an ancient pilgrimage path in Spain in June last year, the attraction of walking hundreds of kilometres towards an assured destination grew on me daily. My eagerness to go on a month-long journey on foot across the steep slopes, lush valleys and forests of the Pyrenees, and through countless small towns and villages, was part of a subconscious quest to find depth and meaning in my life. At the age of 33, I was approaching – prematurely, perhaps – what seemed to be a mid-life crisis.

Letter from Quebec: Preserving Heritage

'TRAVEL is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living,' wrote Miriam Beard. Life in Quebec is now my teacher, pointing out my knowledge gaps and honing my ideas of living - be it language, culture, life-skills, or the environment.

When talents meet under God's plan

Thank you for creating a beautiful stay for us pilgrims at Rabanal. It was a wonderful albergue – beautiful, peaceful and an openness that embraces those who come.

It must have been heaven’s gift to me that I should stay at this albergue at Rabanal on my birthday. What more, I had the good fortune of having three musicians who come from different parts of the world (United Kingdom, North America and Iran/Germany) to play together. On top of that, it just so happened that you had two guitars at the albergue, and a mandolin. Hence, the mini concert that happened by the fireplace that night in October could only be planned by God. Only such amazing talents could play together like this for the first time they meet.

The gift was not only for me, but for all who were present. Hence, I’ve put the videos and pictures of that night for all to savour.

love & peace,
Denise
